Kumquats

Kumquats are the fruits of the Citrus Japonica tree and originate from Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. Far Reaches uses exquisite Nagami kumquats from China. Only the best fruits, those with the perfect, concentrated bittersweet aroma, are selected for distillation.

Fun fact: With kumquats, it's the opposite of an orange: the fruit's peel is sweet, while the flesh has a subtle bitter note.

Juniper

Juniper berries (Juniperus Communis) are the unmistakable heart of every gin, and Far Reaches is no exception. The berries used for this gin grow wild in various parts of Europe and are sourced exclusively from Macedonia and Italy for this gin. Their characteristic tartness harmonizes perfectly with the zesty citrus notes and the bittersweet aromas of the other botanicals.

Fun Fact: Although juniper is demonstrably never grew in ancient Egypt, juniper berries were found as precious grave goods in the world-famous tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.

Quandong

Quandongs (also known as desert peaches) are the fruit of the Santalum acuminatum tree and are native to the central deserts of Australia. They have a unique peach-like flavor, but with a subtle, tart bitterness. They bring fascinating exoticism to gin, as they are extremely rich in vitamin C and lend a very special depth to the distillate.

Fun Fact: During the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean in Australia, lead actor Johnny Depp was given a jar of homemade quandong jam by the local mayor of the film location.

Sarsaparilla

For this gin, both the wild sarsaparilla berries (Aralia nudicaulis), which grow naturally in the shady forests of North America, and the root of the sarsaparilla vine (Smilax ornata) from the rainforests of Mexico are used. This combination gives Far Reaches its distinctive, bittersweet flavour profile with notes of vanilla and caramel, perfectly complementing the fresh citrus aromas.

Fun Fact: Sarsaparilla has anti-inflammatory properties and was formerly prescribed as a true panacea – for gout, arthritis, rheumatism, depression, and even for lovesickness.

Grains of paradise

The grains of paradise (Aframomum melegueta) used are sourced from West Africa and are responsible for the spicy finish in Far Reaches' flavor profile. As a member of the ginger family, they lend a peppery pungency to the gin with subtle hints of citrus – the perfect complement to the fresh citrus notes of the kumquats.

Fun Fact: In certain Nigerian cultures, grains of paradise were used in divination customs and spiritual rituals to determine the guilt or innocence of individuals.

Inspired by travel

Besides their passion for high-quality gin and fine cuisine, founding couple Andrew and Emma are primarily united by one thing: their love of travel. As enthusiastic sailors and adventurers, they have explored countless places around the world. Whether the initial idea for Far Reaches emerged while sailing around remote islands or during a trip through Africa in an old off-road vehicle, they themselves no longer know for sure. What is certain, however, is that the vision grew over many years, numerous trips, and countless encounters.

On their voyages of discovery, Andrew and Emma encountered not only impressive landscapes and cultures but also extraordinary aromas and botanicals. Many of these impressions later found their way into the recipe for Far Reaches – a London Dry Gin that combines the founders' adventurous spirit and the flavors of the world in a single bottle.

Chance encounters that shaped taste

Many ideas for Far Reaches' extraordinary botanicals are based on actual chance encounters during their travels: whether it's tasting a phenomenal quandong jam on Australia's famous Great Ocean Road, hand-picking juniper berries in the hills of Tuscany, or searching for the juiciest kumquats in Vietnam...

From Adventure to the Bottle

After countless ingredients tested and numerous recipes refined, Far Reaches was finally born. But it's not just the liquid content that celebrates wanderlust: the regions of origin of the 13 botanicals are reflected in the elegant design of the bottle. At its heart is a stylized world map, which, thanks to its fine texture, can not only be seen but also felt. From the exquisite ingredients to the seal and the bottle itself – Far Reaches is the perfect premium spirit for all who love travel, adventure, and uncompromising quality.

Craftsmanship and Perfection

Far Reaches is consciously handcrafted and distilled in small batches in the heart of London in a traditional 500-liter copper pot still. This process ensures an even heat distribution and allows the distillate to interact intensely with each individual botanical – the foundation for its exceptional quality.

In total, the gin is distilled five times with 13 characteristic botanicals. This process is meticulously monitored, as only the purest, most aromatic heart is used for the subsequent bottling – an exclusive yield of just 200 liters per batch. The result is a delicious, citrusy, and floral interpretation of the classic London Dry Gin.

More than a gin

After the actual distillation, the gin is given ample time for an extensive resting period. This is essential for the precious essential oils of the botanicals to combine perfectly and develop their full, harmonious aroma.

In strict accordance with the standards of a genuine London Dry Gin, no additives, artificial flavors, or colorings are used whatsoever. Since every step from the initial concept to distillation and final bottling takes place directly on-site, Far Reaches is one of the very few exclusive spirits that are 100 percent rooted in the historical home of gin.

Far Reaches is more than a gin. It is an invitation to discover the world with open eyes.
